From Grunts and Yells to Intelligent Dialog

Remember the first video games in the early days of the medium? You might recall Atari’s Frogger, Nintendo’s Super Mario Brothers and the first video game to include voice over called Doom.

Evolution of Voice Over in Video Games

If you’ve observed the gradual improvements that audio has made over the last decade in video games, and subsequently its increasing importance, you’ve heard dramatic changes in music, use of voice over and the quality of voice acting.

Advancements include more pleasing, professionally produced music, the use of voice over in cut scenes (mini movies within the game) exhibiting intelligent use of communication to advance the plot, and believable exertion sounds during battles and fight scenes.

It Pays To Go Pro

Top tier gaming companies are employing professional voice actors to record and brand their franchises. The likes of celebrity actors to voice games is also on the rise as more and more movies are being made into video games to maintain a consistent sound that translates well to gamers who identify with the characters they saw in the film.

What do you think about where voice acting in video games is going?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Stephanie
